What is a 3D render for sports products

A 3D render is a computer-generated image or animation that represents a product with a photorealistic appearance. In the sports sector, renders allow you to showcase footwear, rackets, helmets, technical equipment and any product with a level of detail and precision impossible to achieve with conventional photography.

The difference between a render and a product photograph is not in the visual result — when done well, they are indistinguishable. The difference lies in complete control over every element: the light, the angle, the materials, the environment, the movement.

"With CGI you can show the inside of a shoe, the construction of a racket or the airflow of a helmet — things no camera can capture."

When to use CGI instead of physical shooting

CGI is not always the best option, but there are scenarios where it wins without question:

01

Product launch before manufacturing

CGI allows campaign content to be produced before the physical product is available. Brands can launch with high-level visual material from day one.

02

Showcasing internal technology or hidden materials

Cross-sections, part explosions, internal layer visualisation. Impossible with a camera, straightforward with CGI. Highly effective for high-performance technical products.

03

Multiple colour or model variants

With a single 3D model you can generate all colour variants without needing a separate session for each one. Significant reduction in time and cost.

04

Content for multiple channels from a single production

Stories, reels, hero film, web, broadcast, in-store screens. With CGI you adapt the same production to all formats without additional cost per session.

Real cases — how we do it at BM Produccions

NOX · 2025 · Calzado de pádel

Tempo Collection

NOX needed to translate years of podiatric research into visual content that any player could understand immediately. We produced four high-impact CGI pieces that showed each shoe technology from the inside — the materials, the construction, the on-court performance. The pieces were broadcast during the Pickleball World Championship and distributed across social media and broadcast channels.

Blaze · 2025 · Tecnología deportiva

Blaze Technology

Blaze's challenge was different: their technology is hard to understand visually. The goal was to transform technical content into compelling visual storytelling. We produced a series of CGI pieces that communicated each technological feature with clarity and impact — turning something complex into something that hooks.

The production process for a sports CGI render or video

Many brands have doubts about how the process works when they have never worked with CGI. It is simpler than it seems:

01

Brief and art direction

We analyse the product, channel, objectives and timing. We develop the artistic direction — visual concept, references, palette and motion — before touching any software.

02

Modelling and materials

We create or import the 3D model of the product. We apply photorealistic materials — textiles, rubbers, plastics, metals — with the precision needed to make the result indistinguishable from a photograph.

03

Animation and render

We animate the product, build the scene and render. We present a review version and apply the necessary changes until we achieve the final result.

04

Delivery in all formats

We deliver in the formats needed for each channel — .mov ProRes, MP4, ratios for stories and reels, broadcast versions. Ready to publish on launch day.

Which types of sports products benefit most from CGI

Virtually any sports product can benefit from CGI, but there are categories where the impact is especially high:

Technical footwear

Sports shoes have layers, technologies and materials that no photograph can show completely. CGI allows you to show the sole, the cushioning system, the upper construction and stitching details in a single visual piece.

Rackets and padel paddles

The internal technology of a padel paddle or tennis racket is invisible to the naked eye. With CGI you can create a part explosion, show the core, the carbon layers and the engineering behind the performance.

Technical equipment and wearables

Helmets, glasses, performance devices and any product with internal technology are perfect candidates for CGI. The ability to show what cannot be seen is the strongest argument in favour of this technology.

Technical clothing and textiles

Material properties — breathability, elasticity, resistance — are difficult to communicate visually. CGI allows you to create visualisations that explain these properties clearly and with impact.
