Why CGI is the ideal tool for tech products
Photographing a pair of headphones, a smartwatch or a smartphone looks straightforward, but in practice it concentrates some of the most complex materials to light: satin-finish plastics that show every fingerprint, metals that generate reflections impossible to control in a studio, screens that require digital compositing in post-production, and geometries with millimetre tolerances where any imperfection becomes visible.
CGI solves all of these problems at the source. Every material is defined mathematically, every finish is adjusted until the result is exactly what the brand needs, and no studio condition sets limits on the final outcome.
"A CGI render of headphones is not a retouched photograph. It is a mathematical reconstruction of the object, with total control over every optical property of every material."
What CGI can do that photography cannot
Total control over finishes and materials
Matte plastic, brushed aluminium, tempered glass, textured rubber. In CGI every material is calibrated with its real optical behaviour: how it reflects, how it absorbs light, how it interacts with its environment. No dependencies on physical material, no batch-to-batch variation.
Colour and finish variants from a single model
The same device in matte black, pearl white, midnight blue or a special edition. With a single 3D model, all catalogue variants can be generated without manufacturing or photographing each unit separately. Essential for launches with multiple colourways.
Screens with integrated content
Showing the interface, app, wearable data or smartphone screen content directly integrated into the render, with correct reflections and perspective, is something photography can only achieve through extensive digital compositing. In CGI it is part of the process from the start.
Product animation and video without a shoot
Product rotations, launch videos, detail animations or sequences showing the inside of the device. All without a physical set, with total control over camera movement and lighting in every frame.
Content before the prototype exists
Tech brands launch campaigns before physical units are available. With CGI, the visual content for a product can be ready weeks before launch, built from the engineering department's 3D model or technical specifications.

View portfolioThe CGI production process for tech products
CGI production for technology and electronics follows the same phases as any 3D project, with particular emphasis on modelling precision and material fidelity:
Brief and art direction
We define the distribution channel, the brand's visual tone and the key angles. For tech products, composition is critical: the same device in a lifestyle context, on a neutral background for e-commerce, or in animation for social media each requires different planning from the outset.
High-precision modelling
We work from the manufacturer's CAD files, STEP files or detailed photographic references. Every part is modelled to the exact tolerances of the real product, including details such as grilles, buttons, connectors and seams.
Materials, lighting and texturing
The most critical phase for tech products. We calibrate the exact behaviour of each material under different lighting conditions, adjust environmental reflections and define surface finishes until we reach the level of realism the piece requires.
Delivery and formats
We deliver in all formats required for every channel: high-resolution images for web and print, videos optimised for social media and broadcast, and source files for future variants or product updates.
Which tech products benefit most from CGI
Audio and wearables
Headphones, earbuds, smartwatches and fitness trackers concentrate the most complex materials: soft rubber, glossy plastic, polished metal and tempered glass in a small object where details are critical. CGI allows every curve, every seam and every finish to be shown with a precision impossible in conventional photography.
Smartphones and tablets
Mobile device manufacturers produce the vast majority of their visual content in CGI. The reason is straightforward: control over screen reflection, the finish of the glass back and the accurate representation of colours cannot be guaranteed in photography without post-production work so extensive it loses all economic advantage over 3D.
Accessories and peripherals
Keyboards, mice, speakers, action cameras, drones. Products where form communicates technical capability and where every angle must convey precision and quality. CGI allows exploration of angles impossible for a physical camera and the construction of scenes that place the product in its context of use.
Home electronics and smart home
Smart home devices, thermostats, security cameras, smart speakers. A category where product design must communicate technology integrated into the domestic environment, and where CGI allows that environment to be built in a controlled way, adaptable to each market.
